- My biggest concern was deciding on my opinion of the two texts, if I agreed with them or not. It is hard to add in your own opinion into a paper, and I need to make my viewpoints clear first before I can argue my standpoint.
- Tim liked my quote choices the best. He thought I picked really good quotes that fit well with each paragraph, and I packed them up very well with my thought and how they connected. He said things like “I think this quote is a perfect choice in this paragraph” and “I think this is a great way to introduce your quotes.”
- For the Dweck section of my paper, I am focusing on her research of children in the classroom. I found this work very interesting and telling of how big of an impact a growth mindset can make in ones intellectuals. I definitely need to add more about my thoughts and opinions on her paper. I have some good arguments after Tim, Olivia and I discussed in class, so I will for sure be adding in my personal thoughts.
- For the Lukianoff/Haidt section of my paper, I am working well discussing their ideas about the importance of critical thinking and cognitive behavior therapy skills. I found good quotes to back up the thoughts of my paper from ‘The Coddling’ as well. For them as well I need to go back and state my opinions on their views throughout the paper. Discussing this out loud in class really helped me condense my thoughts.
- I really just need to go back in an add my thoughts on the text. I did not do this at all, and it will bring my paper together when I do this. Class helped condense my thoughts, and made me come to a decision about where I stand about the authors thoughts. I had a hard time at the beginning because I agreed with some of the authors thoughts, but not all of them. When I discussed this in class with Olivia, she explained how I would be able to add in these conflicting ideas.
- I agree with Lukianoff/Haidt that many are sensitive and want to be coddled within school systems, they do not give enough credit to all the progress that has been made within society from people standing up for something that was not right. I agree completely with Dweck with the power of a growth mindset, but I believe she makes it sound much easier than it actually is, especially if you have been living your whole like with a fixed mindset.
