- Jeffery Scheuer, Sanford Ungar and the UNE CORE handbook all explore the study of liberal arts, and the importance of critical thinking skills within education today. Scheuer, in his article, “Critical Thinking and Liberal Arts,” he discusses the broad definitions of what liberal arts means, and the different ways education systems divide libereal arts. Ungar, in his article, “7 Major Misperceptions About the Liberal Arts,” explains the common errors many believe when thinking about liberal arts education. The UNE CORE Curriculum handbook is designed to explain the implementation of liberal arts education and critical thinking skills in these required classes.
- These three texts all have different approaches to discuss liberal arts education, and what falls into a broad category. I have used these texts to create an argument of what I believe liberal arts education should be at UNE. Scheuer, Ungar and handbook all believe fully in luberal arts, and support my claim of why this education is so important.
- I believe liberal arts is a combination of all topics of discussion, from arts to history to mathematics. Finding the right balance of STEM education to liberal arts education is the most important part of the education of college students.
